316L Low Carbon Austenitic Stainless Steel
316L Special Materail Pipe Fittings

Contains 16%~18.5% Chromium (Cr)

Contains 10%~14% Nickel (Ni)

Contains 2%~3% Molybdenum (Mo)
     – This is key to the strong corrosion resistance of 316L

Carbon content ≤0.03%, low carbon content reduces intergranular corrosion

Basic Introduction

316L is a low-carbon austenitic stainless steel. The "L" stands for Low Carbon. It is an improved version of 316 and is the most mainstream and reliable special-purpose stainless steel for liquid cooling, chemical, and seawater environments. It conforms to the standards ASTM A403, GB/T 12459, and GB/T 14976. It is commonly used for welded pipe fittings, pipes, elbows, tees, reducers, flanges, etc.

Performance Characteristics

Extremely strong corrosion resistance: resistant to chloride ions, pitting corrosion, and crevice corrosion, far superior to 304 stainless steel.

Excellent weldability: low-carbon design, less prone to embrittlement and corrosion after welding, suitable for various welded pipe fittings.

Wide temperature range: commonly used -50℃~200℃, shorter-term resistance to higher temperatures.

Suitable for liquid cooling systems: resistant to water, ethylene glycol, deionized water, weak acids and alkalis, and municipal water/seawater.

Moderate strength, good toughness, vibration and impact resistance, suitable for computer rooms, data centers, and energy storage liquid cooling main pipelines.

Advantages Comparison

Compared to 304 stainless steel: significantly stronger corrosion resistance, suitable for coastal, high-salt, and coolant environments.

Compared to 2205 duplex stainless steel: better toughness, easier to weld, and lower price.

Compared to Hastelloy: lower cost, meeting most common liquid cooling and chemical operating conditions.

Applicable Scenarios

Data centers, AI servers, server racks - liquid cooling piping systems

Water-cooled plates, CDUs, chillers, heat exchanger piping

Seawater, high-salt, coastal area piping

Food, pharmaceutical, clean fluid piping

Chemical low-pressure, weakly corrosive media piping

Welded elbows, tees, reducers requiring high welding precision

Why 316L is the preferred choice for the liquid cooling industry

Rust-free, does not contaminate coolant

Stable welding, leak-proof

Resistant to water, glycol, and chloride ions
